Steve Dershem

Occupation: Centre County Commissioner

I live in Bellefonte with my wife and daughter. I graduated from Bellefonte High School and Penn State University with a degree in Labor Studies. After college, I operated Dershem’s Sports Center, a full-line sporting goods store until being elected county commissioner.

As commissioner, projects and accomplishments:

  • completed Centre County Correctional Facility
  • constructed county Court House Annex and Temple Court facilities
  • established first county crime victim notification program in Pennsylvania
  • implemented county-wide law enforcement Central Booking Center
  • constructed Centre County’s emergency responder training site
  • constructed new state of the art 911/Emergency Communication system and 911 center
  • new Emergency Operations Center to coordinate disaster response and relief efforts.
  • establishment of DUI and drug court systems
  • implemented verifiable paper trail voting systems
  • chair of heroin/opiate prevention education initiative (HOPE)
  • Government Finance Officers Association recognition of budget excellence every year of service
  • 9 consecutive budgets without property tax increase

It is my intention to remain a watchdog for fiscal responsibility and deliver services to the residents of Centre County in the most responsible manner possible. As in the past, I will stand against corruption and fight for the bright future of our county.
